LABORATORY

Comprehensive blood testing & bacteriology

Our state of the art in house laboratory enables us to process blood tests within minutes. We offer haematology, biochemistry, electrolyte, serology and hormonal tests and are often able to provide same day results. We are also able to provide in-house bacteriology culture & sensitivity testing for ear, skin and urinary tract conditions with results within 48 hours.

And for any more specialist or advanced tests we work closely with both IDEXX and SRUC external laboratories, allowing us to provide a truly comprehensive diagnostic service for all your animals' needs.

DIGITAL MICROSCOPY

Dermatology, cytology, haematology and more

Our digital microscope is one of our vet Louise's favourite bits of kit! Equipped with an impressive 18mp digital camera that allows image and video recording of samples, this lab essential is the unseen workhorse of the KVS lab. Allowing rapid, often same day in house analysis - from skin scrapings and ear swabs to fine needle aspirates and blood smears. This helps us detect infections, parasites, and other conditions as soon as possible.

High quality digital imaging also allows us to record and share your pet's results so you also get a chance to 'see under the microscope' and in complex cases even allows us to process images for further analysis.

For example of some of the interesting samples and images we've seen recently please check out the gallery to the side.

DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING

We have a comprehensive array of diagnostic monitoring devices including multiparameter surgical monitor, ECG, & digital otoscope

Our clinic is equipped with modern monitoring tools to ensure safe, accurate care whether at our clinic or in your home.

We carry a Kardia portable ECG & brand new Biolight portable multiparameter unit for mobile visits as well having a Biolight Q5 surgical monitor for patients in the clinic. This allows comprehensive monitoring of patient's blood pressure, heart rhythm, blood oxygenation, heart rate, temperature, respiration and capnography where needed.

We are also equipped with a portable digital otoscope plus traditional ophthalmoscope and otoscope for detailed ear, eye and oral examinations.

SURGICAL SUITE

A compact but fully equipped surgical suite, providing safe and professional care from routine to advanced procedures

Our modern surgical area provides a clean, safe and well-equipped environment for your pet’s procedures. Housed within our clinic trailer treatment room, the space is set up for both routine and emergency operations, with facilities designed to the same standards you’d expect in a traditional practice.

We use a brand-new anaesthetic machine and advanced monitoring equipment to ensure patient safety at every stage. Surgical lighting, active Laerdal suction, electrocautery, and a full dental suite with ultrasonic scaler, drill and polisher allow us to perform a wide range of procedures to a high standard.

Where surgery requires additional support, a second vet or assistant is present to monitor anaesthesia and provide hands-on care, ensuring your animal has dedicated attention throughout.

HOSPITALISATION

Comfortable, safe and stress-free care with staff on site 24/7

Our hospitalisation facilities are designed to provide safe, comfortable, and stress-free care when your pet needs to stay with us. With a small caseload, we are often caring for just one patient at a time — meaning they receive our full attention, frequent checks, and plenty of cuddles and TLC.

  • Our hygienic kennels are equipped with waterproof memory foam mattresses, soft fleecy blankets and adjustable heat pads to keep your pet comfortable.

  • We use stress free handling techniques, dim lighting, calming pheromone sprays (Adaptil/Feliway) and PetRemedy wipes to help your pet's stay be as stress free as possible.

  • A 32mp camera monitors patients 24/7, allowing peace and rest between frequent in-person vet checks. As the clinic is based on-site at our farm, someone is always nearby for overnight patients.

  • For patients requiring intensive care we have state of the art multiparameter monitoring equipment, continuous oxygen supplementation and provide safe and accurate IV fluid therapy with the use of fluid pumps where needed.

  • During your pet's stay we provide regular updates, photos, and videos and FaceTime calls can be arranged if you’d like to check in.

At KVS, we aim to make every pet’s stay feel as close to “home from home” as possible.
